tom8thebomb - I did notice early on that I was forced to exaggerate my body language to inform the speaker that I was still engaged, that's silence 101; haha. I did meet new and interesting people under my silence that I am still acquainted with. Silence made all of my interactions more intimate making it easier to become closer to people faster.

It is great to know that you've learned a great deal from all this and can truly appreciate "silence". I've done something very similar in general conversations but have not yet completely refrained from an entire conversation; either a single person or multiple. I simply let the other party carry the conversation or vice versa. However, it is interesting to note that in the presence of people they automatically assume silence as a negative thing, “they felt like they could not talk”. Silence does raise the mind’s guard but at any point during an interaction did you try and carry on a conservation just by being aware of your facial expressions and maybe amplifying them only to let the party know your still engaged? It would be interesting to find out if people understood your facial expressions during conversations simply because, at times, if certain things are not said during a conversation it may get awkward. Hence, I encourage you to take this a bit farther and explore; maybe go on a blind date or interact with people you don’t know. (Not just routine tasks such as bank tellers but maybe while in silence make a new friend.)

I am still writing day seven, its going to be more or less a conclusion of thoughts and observations made. I actually found that because I eliminated spoken word, I was thinking a lot more. Thinking was all I did other then observe, analyze, and write. I did feel a little alone, although I was never actually alone. It was a strange sensation and I intend to write about it for day seven.

Thank you for your comments Carol

OMG I can't wait to read what you have coming soon! Hats off to your endeavor. Amongst reading your journal, a couple of questions came to mind. Aside from the challenge of having to think about how you would communicate next, did you find that your thoughts were less, allowing more free time in your head? Also I sensed loneliness as well. Did that crop up at all?
